BALT-MILITARY-EXPO for Defence, Safety and Security
Date of publication: 27.06.2012

More than 120 Polish and international companies will present their state-of-the-art equipment and arms at the 12th BALT-MILITARY-EXPO Baltic Military Fair in Gdańsk, June 27-29. This year’s edition of BME will be opened by Mr Tomasz Siemoniak, Poland’s Minister of National Defence, who holds honorary auspices over the event.

Businesses from Poland, France, the USA, Germany, Italy, Russia, Sweden, Norway, the UK, Spain, Canada and the Netherlands have confirmed their participation in BME. The exhibitors include both recognised international corporations and leading Polish companies representing the safety and security sector.

Balt-Military-Expo is dedicated to the Polish Navy, the Special Operations Command, the logistics services of the Polish Army, the Border Guard, the Police, the State Fire Service, rescue services and the agencies of Poland\'s Ministry of Interior. The event\'s merits are evident in its highly specialised product range (with helicopters as a new feature this year) and its side event agenda, developed with the current and prospective modernisation needs of the respective services in mind. BME\'s standing is also confirmed by the fact that its Programme Council is chaired by the Polish Navy’s Commander-in-Chief, Vice Admiral Tomasz Mathea.

Balt-Military-Expo is also a professionally recognised platform for meetings and exchange of views between the makers of defence technology and its users. This is why we enjoy the presence of both the Executive Staff and the Officer Corps of the Polish Army and the services subject to Poland’s Ministry of Interior. The event’s eminent place in the international defence exhibition calendar has attracted many high ranking visitors from abroad. This year, BME will be visited by ministry-level delegations from France, Norway, Lithuania, Kazakhstan, Bulgaria and Vietnam, by Military Attachés accredited in Poland and more.

BALT-MILITARY-EXPO always provides an extensive programme of side events. This year, the 5th NATCON International Science and Technology Conference on Naval Technologies for Defence and Security is especially worth attention. It is the result of a partnership between the Polish Naval Academy, CTM S.A. Maritime Technology Research and Development Centre of Gdynia and the MTG SA Gdańsk International Fair Co. The aim of the conference is to exchange the know-how, experience and expectations between the realm of science on the one hand and the future users and the industry on the other. This year\'s edition has gathered more than 50 Polish and international speakers and about 150 participants – top-class defence, safety and security specialists. NATCON’s main subjects include plenary sessions dedicated to Sea Platforms, Surface and Underwater Armament Systems, Cooperation in ensuring Safety at Sea – Safety and Protection of Navigation, Maritime Surveillance, Harbour and Critical Maritime Infrastructure Protection.

BALT-MILITARY-EXPO is also accompanied by a variety of demonstrations, seminars and presentations, including the SŁN GŁUPTAK Self-propelled Demolition Munition in action (from the Gdańsk University of Technology Maritime Military Technology Centre), a presentation of A Module for Multidimensional Physical Observation and Underwater Reconnaissance (from the Polish Naval Academy), rescue shows and traffic rescue equipment presentations (from the Gdańsk HQ of the State Fire Service). The Polish Air Force Institute of Technology has prepared a presentation on its own Research for the National Defence System.

The Polish Naval Academy’s Naval Electrical Engineering and Control Institute will run a seminar on Modern Power Resources for Military Purposes. BME’s agenda is supplemented with spectacular counter-terrorist and rescue shows in the waters of the Port of Gdynia and a dynamic presentation of boarding a ship in motion in the Bay of Gdańsk to rescue hostages (including the use of combat boats and a helicopter) by the GROM Special Operations Unit.

BALT-MILITARY-EXPO 2012 is accompanied by RESCUE EXPO – the 1st International Conference and Exhibition of Medical Rescue co-organised by the Polish Professional Paramedic Association (SZRM). The mission of RESCUE EXPO 2012 is to provide an event to support the needs of all the players in the National Paramedic System, including: Emergency Call Centres, Paramedic Teams, the Air Ambulance Service, State Fire Service and Hospital Emergency Departments. RESCUE EXPO incorporates ALERT 2012 – a Science and Training Conference on Paramedic Procedures.

The best products presented at BME will receive the Rear Admiral Xawery Czernicki GRAND PRIX and BME Amber Medallions. Awards will also be presented by the BME partners: the Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Navy, Polish Chamber of National Defence Manufacturers (PIPNOK), the Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Police, the Commandant of the Polish State Fire Service, the Commander-Rector of the Polish Naval Academy (AMW) and the Executive Board of the National Classified Information Protection Society (KSOIN) .

This year’s Baltic Military Fair is organised for the first time at the new AmberExpo Exhibition and Convention Centre opened by the MTG SA Gdańsk International Fair Company in the spring of this year. This state-of-the art centre offers not only 12,000 m2 of floor space but also conference infrastructure (with more than 1130 seats in four rooms) to enable holding exhibitions and congresses in parallel.
