Date of publication: 12.07.2010

DCT Gdansk, Poland’s largest container terminal recorded dynamic growth in the first half of 2010. By June 2010,
it already exceeded its 2009 volume by handling a total of 173,279 TEU.

Monthly handling volume continues to increase steadily and totaled in excess of 36,000 TEU in June.  As a result DCT plans to triple its activity in 2010 compared to 2009 by handling around 450,000 TEUs.

The dynamic growth of the container volume handled allows DCT to accelerate its plans for investments into more handling equipment.
Boris Wenzel, CEO of DCT Gdansk commented:
”Thanks to our consistently high berth productivity levels, DCT Gdansk still has ample capacity to handle services from other lines with the same high quality of service our Clients have been accustomed to.
We expect to finalize shortly the purchase of additional equipment to gradually increase our handling capacity to
1 million TEU to maximise the potential of our existing infrastructure and respond to demand from the market.”
Longer term, the future expansion phases can provide DCT with up to 4 million TEU capacity to service Lines switching from traditional Northern European hubs in order to take advantage of DCT’s high quality service, facilities and location to service Poland and the rest of the Central & Eastern European markets.
DCT Gdansk is the only terminal in Poland and the Baltic Sea receiving weekly deep sea calls from the Far East operated by Maersk Line. The terminal also cooperates with a variety of other lines shipping their containers to Poland using public feeder services.
