Global network expansion follows 19% premium growth for DGS Marine in February P&I renewals
DGS Marine, a leading global P&I management provider, and exclusive manager for the British European and Overseas (BE&O) P&I facility, has announced the further expansion of its network with the opening of a new office in Poland.
The launch of DGS Marine’s new office in Gdynia, Poland, extends its network to ten locations around the globe and provides DGS Marine with a strategic base from which to meet the needs of its customers in the Polish shipping and marine insurance sectors. As well as this, it creates the opportunity to work in conjunction with DGS Marine’s Latvia office, to provide claims handling services to the Baltic shipping market.
The new DGS Marine office will be headed by Ms Aneta Buras, Executive General Manager of DGS Marine Poland. Ms Buras has been in the shipping and marine industry since graduating in law from Poland’s Nicolas Copernicus University. She has previously worked for a leading insurance broker and for shipping lines in the UK and Poland. Having also worked as a claims handler for the DGS Marine Group in London, she has now taken up her role at the helm of DGS Marine’s new Poland office, which is based in the port city of Gdynia, on the south coast of the Baltic Sea.
Commenting on the launch of DGS Marine’s Poland office, David Skinner, BE&O P&I Group Managing Director, said: “Ship owners around the world are under constant pressure to control the costs within their business, and insurance claims are no exception. Marine claims can place a significant financial burden on any shipping company, particularly in the continued challenging market conditions. We pride ourselves on bringing our expertise and experience to bear in order to deliver a speedy, efficient and satisfactory resolution, whatever the nature of the claim.
“Against this backdrop, we are delighted to extend DGS Marine’s global network to Poland, which is a growing shipping market with great potential. We want to be wherever our customers need us and we know that our customers in Poland, as well as the wider Baltic region, will welcome our local presence when it comes to resolving their cargo claims.”
Ms Aneta Buras, Executive General Manager of DGS Marine Poland, added: “The Polish shipping sector is growing steadily and there is great potential in the expansion of international shipping routes through the Baltic and beyond. Gdynia itself is a growing centre for ship management and Poland has a long tradition of supplying seafarers to serve on the global shipping fleet. With such a rich maritime history and strong prospects for future growth, there is a real strategic and commercial rationale for DGS Marine to have a strong presence here in Poland. This will allow us to respond even faster to the needs of our customers and ensure that they receive the very best service in resolving their claims and minimising their losses.”

The opening of DGS Marine’s Poland office follows a very successful period of P&I renewals this February, which saw a 19% growth in premiums for DGS Marine during the 2013/14 policy year. This significant growth in the fixed premium P&I market was driven by ship owners and operators, particularly small to mid-size companies, looking to secure greater certainty, transparency and control over their insurance costs.
