First Cruise Ship of the Season Calls Port of Gdynia
Date of publication: 30.04.2025

The Port of Gdynia has officially kicked off a new cruise season. On the morning of April 29, the AIDAmar — a 253-meter Icarus-class cruise ship built at the Meyer Werft shipyard for AIDA Cruises — moored at the French Quay.

A total of 51 cruise ship calls are scheduled for the Port of Gdynia in the 2025 season, an increase compared to last year, when 42 ships were handled. As in previous years, vessels will dock at the French Quay, from where tourists will set out on excursions around the Tricity area and beyond. This year’s season will last slightly longer than usual, concluding on October 30 with the arrival of AIDAdiva.

Cruise Ships Return to Gdynia

— The 2025 season has started very promisingly. The growing number of ship calls confirms that the Port of Gdynia is an attractive destination on the Baltic Sea cruise map. We’re pleased to welcome back well-established operators as well as debut visits from new vessels. Each ship is not only an event for the port, but also brings real economic support to the local economy — said Ewelina Ziajka, Senior Key Client Specialist at the Strategy and Market Analysis Office of the Port of Gdynia Authority S.A.

Among the vessels visiting Gdynia this season will be familiar favorites as well as exciting newcomers. Returning this year is Mein Schiff 7 — powered by methanol and a clear example of the growing trend toward greener passenger shipping.

The season will also see the debut of several unique vessels. In July, Ilma — an ultra-luxurious cruise ship — will dock in Gdynia for the first time, sure to attract both cruise enthusiasts and fans of modern design. In October, Norwegian Prima will also make its debut in Gdynia, visiting the port twice this season.

Regular visitors such as the AIDA fleet and the aforementioned Mein Schiff will also return, maintaining their strong popularity among tourists.

Benefits for the City, Port, and Region

Cruise ship calls at the Port of Gdynia are not only a spectacular attraction for residents and tourists but also a significant economic event — for the port itself and the broader region. Each call promotes not only the port infrastructure but also the city, offering international guests a chance to discover Gdynia.

For tourists, it’s a unique opportunity to experience Gdynia — a city built by the sea, known for its modernist architecture and coastal charm. Tour operators offer a wide range of excursions in the Tricity and surrounding areas. Among the most popular destinations is the Emigration Museum, located right by the French Quay where the ships dock.

Today, the Port of Gdynia is the largest cruise port in Poland and one of the top ten in the Baltic Sea in terms of passenger numbers. Thanks to its modern infrastructure, it can accommodate even the largest vessels — including this season’s highlight, Celebrity Eclipse, an impressive cruise liner over 300 meters long.
