Flint Systems is developing a VR welding simulator for PSSE
Date of publication: 22.03.2023

Under the contract signed on March 10 between Flint Systems and the Pomeranian Special Economic Zone (PSEZ), Flint Systems will provide the PSEZ with a welding simulator combining virtual reality technology with real elements used in welding.

The welding simulator will be commissioned within a year of signing the contract and will include eight learning stations. As part of the order, Flint Systems will provide both software and hardware, i.e. physical elements needed to learn simulations.v

The simulator will enable welding of black steel, stainless steel, aluminum and copper. The type of materials that will be welded are flat bar, pipe, T-bar and plate. Candidates for welders will be able to learn in four welding methods - GMAW (MIG / MAG), SMAW (MMA), GTAW (TIG), and FCAW in five positions - bottom, side, wall, vertical and overhang. In addition, the simulator will take into account fillet stitches, frontal stitches, back stitches, it will also be able to combine different types of stitches with each other.

It will be possible to select the appropriate WPS setting and set welding parameters, including at least:

• Welding current taking into account the current intensity and its polarity,
• composition of the mixture,
• gas flow velocity,
• Current, voltage,
• wire feed speed,
• Selection of welding material (type of material-bond),
• Selection of the type of electrode, diameter of the electrode,
• Thickness of the welded material and several selected welding phases.

In addition, you can choose from the scenery of the training - the hall, the shipyard, the interior of the ship.

– Currently, there are various welding simulators on the market, but there is no one that combines so many physical elements with virtual reality. Our simulator will have elements such as a helmet, haptic gloves and a welding handle. The training will be very realistic, and the trainee will feel, for example, heat or breaking the bow. After delivering the simulator to the Pomeranian Special Economic Zone, we intend to continue offering our product to customers. Particularly valuable information is that it will be offered by us at really affordable and competitive prices - said Grzegorz Szatkowski, Vice President of the Management Board of Flint Systems.
