The amendments introduced in 2011, to the act on the Polish maritime areas and maritime administration resulted in a rapid increase in the number of applications for issuing location consents for the offshore wind farms. According to the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Maritime Economy, by February 22nd, 54 applications were submitted and first location decisions are being expected in a next few weeks. It seems that this year will be crucial for the offshore wind energy in Poland.
The newest information about prospects of the maritime wind farms was introduced during the conference “Investments in maritime wind farms” that took place on 22nd February in Warsaw. The event was organized by the daily economic newspaper “Rzeczpospolita” with the support of Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Transport, Construction and Maritime Economy and Polish Offshore Wind Energy Society.
During the conference the investment conditions and potential of the offshore wind energy were discussed. In accordance with discussion, related chances of the polish shipyards reuse and development of the coastal cities and port areas were indicated.
