PRS Head Office hosted a PRS meeting with the representatives of MORCEKO (Maritime Centre for Eco-energy and Eco-systems) and the Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery, Polish Academy of Sciences on July 26, 2013, whereby a Letter of Intent was signed to cooperate in areas related to sustainable, safe production and use of energy from renewable sources, particularly from offshore sources.
The document was signed by Prof. Piotr Doerffer on behalf of MORCEKO, and by Grzegorz Pettke, Member of PRS Management Board on behalf of PRS S.A.
The meeting was also attended by Prof. Jarosław Mikielewicz, Director of the Institute Of Fluid-Flow Machinery, Polish Academy of Sciences. The Institute coordinates MORCEKO’s operations.
Prior to signing the Letter of Intent PRS presented the Society’s potential and experience in MORCEKO’s research and development priority areas. PRS presented the Society’s achievements and capacity to carry out specialised works related to structural safety and risk assessment of marine energy infrastructure as well as experience and potential related to supervision of offshore installations, marine construction and operations itself. Talks also touched on cooperation in scope of marine technology based on actual plans for the development of renewable energy production installations located in the Polish exclusive economic zone.
The Letter of Intent caps PRS endeavours to define the Society’ potential involvement in research and development work as well as other commercial and educational projects related to preparing and implementing the offshore energy production investment projects including also power transmission and conversion of energy produced in offshore installations.
Maritime Centre for Eco-energy and Eco-systems MORCEKO is a consortium targeting at the development of research potential capable of selecting the best or developing new technologies, providing prototype testing and developing conceptual designs of systems and devices for the use of future investors. The projects implemented by the Maritime Centre will account for all aspects of local potential and the environment facilitating the investment process and assuring installations safety.
MORCEKO is to play a strategic role in the comprehensive coordination of operations relating to triggering the R&D facilitating commercial development and use of offshore renewable energy potential both at sea and in coastal areas. The Centre’s objective is to assure safe renewable energy production without detrimental environmental and sociological effects. Another significant task facing the organisation is the participation in legislative works on renewable energy law and involvement in publicity and educational measures.
PRS S.A. holds all the necessary authorisations and accreditations to operate in the Polish exclusive economic zone in Baltic Sea. Furthermore, the Society is a member of a number of Polish and international professional organisations and associations, e.g. Polish Offshore Wind Energy Society (PTMEW) and European Wind Energy Association – EWEA.
