Please be advised that the following recast of PRS Rules for construction of containers and containers in service comes into force with August 1, 2012.
“Rules for the Construction of Containers – 2012”, which supersede rules of 2007, have been published in Polish and English language versions in 2 volumes (pdf files), “Rules for the Inspection of Freight Containers in Service – 2012” appears as a single, bilingual publication.
All the Rules referred to above in pdf file format are accessible on PRS website, under PRS Rules and Publications > Other Rules and Publications.
PRS carries out approval procedures based on “Rules for the Construction of Containers” to issue Type Approval Certificates for container design type. Approval Certificate entitles the manufacturer to affix the CSC Safety Approval Plate to each container of the series built in accordance with an approved design type and to a single container (CSC – International Convention for Safe Containers, 1972, with amendments and supplements).
“Rules for the Inspection of Freight Containers in Service – 2012” comply with the requirements of the International Convention for Safe Containers (CSC), 1972, with the Amendments and apply to all types and kinds of containers having affixed the “Safety Approval Plate” according to CSC, except containers specially designed for air transport.
Compliance of PRS Rules with the requirements of CSC Convention and other international regulations as well as 40 year long experience in supervising production and containers in service are of practical significance for producers and operators of these structures – compliance not only guarantees container safety but also gives assurance to its acceptance by controlling bodies worldwide.
Polski Rejestr Statków supervises container construction and containers in service abroad since 1972. The first Approval Certificate for a container built in Poland was issued two years later to a universal type container produced by the container factory UNIKON in Szczecin. In the following years PRS supervised containers in many European countries (among others in Finland, Ireland, Great Britain, Spain, Germany), and in Poland with the development of container production in the country.
Presently, PRS cooperates with many container producers such as: Agregaty PEX-POOL PLUS (Dębica), ANCORA (Gdańsk), ANGA (Gdańsk), CELTECH (Poznań), PPEB „Kontener” (Płock), Przedsiębiorstwo Innowacyjno-Wdrożeniowe ARMPOL (Sulejówek), Zakład Budowy Aparatury Chemicznej „ZBACH” in Tarnów, ZAMET Głowno, ZASŁAW (Zagórz). These companies produce various container types including highly specialised containers for carriage of hazardous substances and containers for military use.
We also supervise container construction in other countries; mainly for NAMSA agencies, suppliers for NATO Member States armies.
PRS also provides training in scope of production, operation and servicing of containers. Up to date training courses have been run for: MAERSK Polska, DCT Gdańsk, POLCARGO, Port Gdańsk, Gdańsk Container Terminal, ATC Rail, Balticon, REFCON and the Polish Armed Forces.
