On Monday, the Ministry of Infrastructure granted PGE Baltica 4 a permit to develop one of the areas in the Baltic Sea intended for offshore wind farms.

As the ministry explained, four bidders competed in the conclusive procedure for the issuance of a permit for the construction and use of artificial islands, structures and devices in the area marked 43.E.1. The following applicants have achieved the minimum qualification:

1. PGE Baltica 4 sp. z o.o.
2. EDF Renewable Offshore Polska I sp. z o.o.
3. Cormano sp. z o.o.
4. POW-Polish Offshore Wind-Co sp. z o.o.

- Obtaining the highest number of points by the PGE Group in the procedure for issuing a permit for offshore wind farms in the area 43.E.1 is tantamount to obtaining a permit for the development of this area by PGE. It is located close to our offshore wind projects and the service port under construction in Ustka, which will allow us to take advantage of the synergy effect and the scale of our operations. This gives us an advantage and distinguishes us from the competition, because it allows us to shorten processes and optimize the costs of many design tasks. This permit, in addition to three offshore wind farm projects in the Baltic Sea with a total installed capacity of approximately 3.4 GW, is another step towards achieving the strategic goal of the PGE Group, which is to have at least 6.5 GW of installed generation capacity in the Baltic Sea by 2040 year - stressed the president of PGE, Wojciech Dąbrowski

On Monday, the Ministry of Infrastructure also announced the outcome of the proceedings for another maritime area. None of the applicants met the qualifying minimum in the criterion of the proposed periods of validity of the permit, including the dates of commencement and completion of the construction and operation of the wind farm. Taking into account the applicable regulations, it is not possible to develop a viable implementation schedule for a project that would obtain a permit in 2022 or 2023, the ministry indicated, considering the procedure unresolved.
