Polish Register of Shipping and the Maritime University in Szczecin, two Polish entities involved in the EU project BSR InnoShip, are organising a seminar on 21 March 2012 entitled Reducing noxious ship exhaust emissions in Baltic ports and at sea.

The seminar will be held in PRS Head Office in Gdańsk, at al. Generała Józefa Hallera 126, as part of the BSR project. The Seminar Secretariat will be run by Krzysztof Kołwzan, PRS Machinery and Equipment Department, tel. 58 75 11 219, e-mail: k.kolwzan@prs.pl.

The BSR InnoShip project, which PRS joined in 2010, is classified by the European Commission to be part of the flagship project under Priority Area 4 of the Action Plan for the Baltic Sea Region – BSR.

The project aims at enhancing international cooperation and joint action towards reducing shipping related pollution in the Baltic Sea Region and in Baltic ports through knowledge and innovation based competitiveness. It also fits well into the work plan of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive and HELCOM Baltic Sea Action Plan (BSAP).

The seminar is held under the patronage of the Polish Ministry of Transport, Construction and Maritime Economy, the Marshal of the Pomorskie Voivodeship and Polish Shipowners Association.

Ecology Art Contest

The seminar will be accompanied by a presentation of children’s’ art works prepared for the art contest entitled “Stop global warming over the Baltic Sea” and will include the granting of awards to the contest winners.

The contest was announced in December 2011 in Primary School no 16 in Gdańsk during a PRS presentation for the pupils belonging to the school circle of the Sea and River League. The subject theme of the presentation focused on noxious exhaust emissions to the atmosphere on land and at sea, global warming and their adverse impact on human life and the natural environment.

The presentation and art contest are arranged by PRS in cooperation with the Gdańsk Branch of the Sea and River League under one of the BSR InnoShip tasks targeted at educating children and youth on environmental issues and promoting protection of the Baltic marine environment.
