Production of Structural Components for the Baltica 2 Offshore Wind Farm Begins in Gdańsk and Gdynia

On Thursday, the production of structural components for the Baltica 2 Offshore Wind Farm was officially launched. The Baltic Industrial Group, owned by the Industrial Development Agency (ARP), is responsible for manufacturing the anode protection cages and mooring structures.

A symbolic steel-cutting ceremony took place at the Energomontaż Północ Gdynia facility, officially marking the start of mooring structure production for the Baltica 2 Offshore Wind Farm. The anode cages will be produced in Gdańsk. These elements are designed to protect the wind turbine foundations from corrosion and mechanical damage. They are part of what is known as “secondary steel” – a set of auxiliary structures essential for the safe operation of offshore wind farms.

Structural Component Manufacturing

“We are pleased that Ørsted and Polska Grupa Energetyczna have entrusted us with the production of these components. It is proof that local suppliers from Poland and Europe can effectively support major offshore investments,” said Remigiusz Paszkiewicz, President of the Baltic Industrial Group. He emphasized that offshore-related production is one of the group's strategic development directions, alongside onshore wind energy and shipbuilding.

“I believe that in the near future, offshore products could become our export specialty,” Paszkiewicz told Gospodarka Morska.

Production will take place at the Baltic Industrial Group’s facilities in Gdynia and Gdańsk. Other "secondary steel" components for Baltica 2, such as internal suspended platforms, will be produced by Smulders in Żary.

Baltica 2 is the largest offshore wind farm under construction in Polish Baltic waters. The project is being developed jointly by Polska Grupa Energetyczna and Ørsted – the Danish company specializing in offshore wind energy. Baltica 2 will consist of 107 powerful wind turbines with a total capacity of 1.5 GW, supplying electricity to 2.5 million Polish households.

Project Development

Preparatory works are already underway to ready the seabed for foundation and subsea infrastructure installation. Onshore infrastructure is also being developed in the Choczewo municipality, and key components are being produced to deliver power from Baltica 2 into the national transmission grid.

“One of the priorities of PGE Group's new strategy through 2035 is to strengthen the national supply chain,” said Maciej Górski, Vice President of PGE’s Management Board. He emphasized that the contract with Baltic Industrial Group is a practical example of this strategy in action.

“It's not just about having turbines producing energy. What matters even more is ensuring that the Polish economy benefits – including through the supply chain. We see that Polish companies have the expertise, skilled workforce, and production potential to become a pillar of offshore wind development in the Baltic,” he added.

Agata Staniewska-Bolesta, Managing Director of Ørsted Offshore Poland, noted that Polish companies’ involvement in offshore projects is steadily increasing, which enhances their visibility abroad and opens the door to exporting Polish services across Europe.

Project On Track with Timeline

Baltica 2 will be built in Poland’s part of the Baltic Sea between Ustka and Choczewo. It will consist of 107 turbines, each with a capacity of 14 MW, spread over an area of approximately 190 km². The nearest turbine will be located about 40 km from the shore. The turbines will be mounted on monopile foundations. The project includes four offshore transformer substations, a service base in Ustka, and an onshore power export point near Choczewo.

“All project timelines are currently being met,” said Bartosz Fedurek, President of PGE Baltica, the company overseeing the investment, in an interview with Gospodarka Morska.

“Right now, the service base in Ustka is under construction, component production has begun in Gdańsk and Gdynia, and seabed preparation work is ongoing in the area where Baltica 2 will be located. In 2026, we will focus on foundation installation, while 2027 will be dedicated to turbine installation and project launch,” Fedurek explained.
