The investment, worth a billion and 300 million zlotys, is heading towards the end. The complete modernization of the Świnoujście-Szczecin fairway to a depth of 12.5 meters will be completed in March 2022.

- When it comes to the pace of work, the 12.5 meter fairway is ready, so we feel very good in this scope - Wojciech Zdanowicz, director of the Maritime Office in Szczecin, said on Radio Szczecin. - We are talking about 62 kilometers of fairway. In order to deepen the track to 12.5 meters, approximately 23 million cubic meters of sand from the river had to be extracted. They had to be put away for the so-called dump sites, i.e. two new artificial islands (Brysna and Śmięcka) in the Szczecin Lagoon. Finishing works are ahead of us.

Modernization of the Świnoujście-Szczecin fairway. What is the work progress?

- works related to the profiling of slopes and leveling the bottom are in progress on the fairway, pre-treatment works will begin in the coming weeks,
- a hydrotechnical stone is being installed at the W22 island to strengthen underwater slopes,
- a hydrotechnical stone is being installed at the W28 island to strengthen underwater slopes,
piling works are underway to build a marina for both islands,
- in the area of ​​the turning basin of Orla Przesmyk, work is underway to strengthen and profile the underwater slopes at Ostrów Grabowski, Wielka Kępa and Radolina, and the installation of geotextile and hydrotechnical stone is also underway,
- works are underway to strengthen underwater slopes at the Żeglarskie wharf, and at the BONn and HUK wharfs the works have been completed.

Shipping conditions

- Port captains' offices, port dispatchers and sea pilots, among other services, receive daily e-mails with current information about the works of all contractor units on a given kilometer of the track - informs Ewa Wieczorek, the press spokesman of the Maritime Office in Szczecin.
