Color Line has held the steel cutting ceremony for its plug-in hybrid ferry. The steel cutting took place at the hull yard Crist, Poland, on July 14.

Ferry will be 160 meters long and 27 meters wide and will have capacity of 2,000 passengers and 500 vehicles. Travel time on the ship will be only 20 minutes. This will be possible due to the features and equipment of the ferry, providing high maneuverability and a powerful propulsion. The vessel is to be equipped with a hybrid main propulsion system.

"We are delighted that the world's largest hybrid ferry will be built largely in our yard. This is another project that confirms the strong position of CRIST in the market of innovative passenger units - says Tomasz Wrzask, PR manager CRIST.

The charging process of the vessel battery will take place each time it is stationed at the port by means of a power cord from special objects belonging to Color Line or on board the ship.

Scheduled to be completed in 2019, the newbuilding will serve the Sandefjord-Strömstad route. As explained, the ferry will be able to turn to battery power upon arrival to the fjord of Sandefjord, with minimized noise and zero emissions of NOx, SOx and climate gases as result.

In part, a Norwegian shipyard unit is built at the CRIST shipyard, the final finishing work will be carried out at the Norwegian shipyard Ulstein, while the final destination is Color Line, one of the largest ferry operators in Norway. In addition to transporting people and goods, the company offers hotel services, shopping, restaurants and entertainment services. The company currently employs 3,500 people in four countries.
