Naming ceremony of two modern car – passenger ferries in Remontowa Shipbuilding

Special naming ceremony of two modern cars – passenger ferries ordered by Canadian Owner - the largest passenger ferry line in North America - BC Ferry was held in Remontowa Shipbuilding on 2nd of June 2016.

The contract is being realised as a result of the tender announced by the Owner in 2014. Our unquestionable experience in building gas powered ferries and good reputation we enjoy among owners all over the world helped us to beat the rivals from Norway, Germany, Canada and Turkey. The contract for the building of  ferries include design, construction, equipment, complete test program  as well as the delivery to the home port.

The new ferries will replace nearly 50-year-old ships which are to be decommissioned.

What’s more these will be the first vessels in the currently 36 ship fleet, powered by Dual Fuel engines capable of running both in Diesel and LNG mode. Ferries will take on board 150 passenger’s cars and 600 passengers.

Christening and naming ceremony are the culmination of the whole construction process. It’s no wonder, that the ceremony was attended by numerous representatives of the Owner. The Godmothers of the two ferries became long-time BC Ferries workers. After symbolic breaking of champagne bottles, ferries got the names: Salish Eagle and Salish Raven.

The whole ceremony was honoured by Orchestra of the Maritime Border Guard in Gdansk.
