Poland is starting it’s way in development of Offshore Wind (OW). The expectations are around 6 GW installed power in 1st stage in the coming years and additional 6 GW in the future. Damen designs and proven solutions are well recognized within Offshore Wind Industry (OWI). Damen is well positioned on Polish market and locally present’s turn-key solutions for supplier.

Energy generation from Offshore Wind Farms (OWF) is growing exponentially in almost all parts of the World. It is consequence of the energy transition from fossil fuels to “zero” emission renewable energy sources.

Poland is one of the European countries where the transition challenges are especially sensitive. The biggest part of the country’s energy is coming from traditional power plants (above 80%), fired by lignite or black coal. It’s time to start changing balance and to meet required obligations in renewable energy contribution. Government’s strategy goal is set to become climate neutral in 2050. OW becomes the most promising source of green energy as Baltic has excellent conditions for development of the OWF. Poland has almost 500km of coast line and simultaneously large exclusive economic zone.

3rd of February 2021 was a historical day when Offshore Act has been formally issued and Poland officially became offshore country ready for development of OWF. The marathon started.

OW is a trigger for local economy as the local content will be required. The OW developers are obliged to report local content contribution. Here comes Damen. We have significant experience in delivery of turn-key solutions for OW market by delivering specialized vessels.

Our range vary from pontoons, small workboats, Multicats to Crew Transfer Vessels, and from Cable Layers to sophisticated Walk‑to-Work’s. Damen local content is represented by 4 local branches with around 600 local employees. It is worth to mention that Damen is present in Poland indirectly from 80’s and directly from early 90’s.

We are ready to design, built and deliver vessels in Poland. We can deliver solutions from conceptual design to final commissioning by merging local engineering and manufacturing with Dutch potential and experience of last decades.

It is also important to mention that from November 2020 year Damen is member of the Polish Offshore Wind Energy Society (PTMEW) with an opportunity to be part of the group contributing to development of OW market in Poland. This group combines developers (PGE-Orsted, Polenergia-Equinor, RWE, Orlen), government representatives, suppliers of turbines, EPCI contractors and other companies to contribute in the upcoming projects.

In the end it is all about people. It is undoubtedly exciting to know that the Damen vessels for OWF are designed in Poland by our local highly specialized engineering teams, e.g. Bibby Wavemaster.
