The 19th of July will be the day to visit Port of Gdynia. On this day, three passenger ships will moor at Gdynia’s quays:
Gann (108 m), Marina (238 m) and Vision of the Seas (279 m).
Passenger ship enthusiasts are in for a real treat, as the MS Gann (length 108 m and beam 16 m) sailing under the Norwegian flag, which may not be the grandest of ships, but will moor at in the most representative spot of Port of Gdynia: Nabrzeże Pomorskie [Pomeranian Quay]. The modest cruise ship will arrive in Gdynia in the morning of July the 18th (circa 9.00 am) and will remain at the quay until the evening of the following day (circa 6.30 pm). According to information found on Nasze Morze [Our Sea] website, for most of the year MS Gann acts as a boarding school for maritime high school students. During the academic year the ship is stationed in Stavanger.
Marina, which entered service last year (length 238 m and beam 32 m) will moor to at Nabrzeże Stanów Zjednoczonych [United States Quay] in Gdynia on the 19th of July at 8.00 am and will sail away on the same day at 6.00 pm. The luxury ship, which can accommodate 1250 passengers and 800 crew across its 15 decks, boasts the only one of its kind culinary centre, with 22 fully equipped learning and self catering stations. On the 25th of July, Marina will be honoured by a plaque in the “Passenger Ship Alley” This season, the cruise ship will return to Gdynia on 4 more occasions.
Next, at 11.00 am the passenger ship Vision of the Seas, which in no stranger to our port, will moor at Nabrzeże Francuskie [French Quay]. Launched in 1998, accommodating over 2000 passengers, the colossus stretches across 279 m in length and beam of 32 m. Vision of the Seas belongs to Royal Caribbean International, the ship owner who also operates the largest cruise ship in the world – Oasis of the Seas. Amongst numerous on-board attractions, passengers have at their disposal swimming pools with a jacuzzi and sauna, shops and boutiques, restaurants, bars and a theatre with seating for 870 spectators. For the more active passengers, sports facilities are available such as a fitness centre, jogging trail and a rock climbing wall.
The end of this year’s cruise ship season in Port of Gdynia is planned for the 24th of September, with a visit by the last of the announced ships, Nautica.
