The World Maritime Day Parallel Event is the most important maritime event of the United Nations. The WMD Parallel Event 2018 will be held in Poland. The theme for the year is IMO 70: Our Heritage – Better Shipping for a Better Future.

In 2018, we also celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the International Maritime Organization, a specialised organisation of the United Nations system. The IMO deals with maritime affairs, maritime safety, international shipping and the prevention of marine environment pollution.
