The Bursztyn Unity ferry completed its sea trials on Monday evening, 5 October. The vessel is currently berthed at the Zdobywców Kołobrzegu Quay at Gdańsk Shipyard Remontowa S.A., where final work is under way to prepare it for handover to the customer.
The vessel will operate on the Świnoujście–Ystad route under the POLSCA Baltic Ferries joint commercial brand, which brings together the operators Unity Line, Polferries and Hass Holding.
The shipowner said the trials were completed successfully and very efficiently. During the trials, the operation of the vessel's key systems was verified, including its propulsion, navigation equipment and safety systems. The results obtained confirmed that the vessel is ready for the next stage.
“We are very pleased with how the sea trials went. All key tests were carried out according to plan, and the vessel confirmed its high technical performance. This is another important step bringing us closer to putting Bursztyn Unity into service. Together with Jantar Unity, it will form the backbone of POLSCA Baltic Ferries' modern fleet,” said Paweł Pluto-Prądzyński, President of the Management Board of POLSCA S.A.
Bursztyn Unity is a sister vessel to the Jantar Unity ferry. Once the procedures related to the vessel's acceptance and handover to the shipowner have been completed, preparations will begin for the vessel to enter regular service in the Baltic, which is scheduled to take place in November.
As previously reported, the sea trials began on 28 September, although their start had earlier been announced for the first week of that month. At the time, speculation appeared in the media about possible problems with payments for the ferry, which were said to have directly contributed to the delay.
Following publication, we contacted the shipowner. It firmly denied the reports of the aforementioned problems and explained that the postponement of the ferry's departure for sea trials was related to the need to complete several formalities. At the same time, it stressed that, to the best of its knowledge, all obligations related to the project were being settled on time and that the delay to the sea trials would not affect the vessel's final acceptance.
