Construction of T5 Terminal in Gdańsk Gathers Pace
Date of publication: 20.04.2026

Intensive structural and earthworks are ongoing at the T5 terminal construction site, with reinforced concrete works progressing in parallel with ground preparation, enabling new phases of the project to be opened up.

In recent months, reinforced concrete, road and earthworks have resumed, alongside the commencement of installation works. Increased mobilisation of construction teams has allowed the project to move into subsequent stages of delivery. At present, advanced works are underway at the outbound quay, focusing on the construction of the future quay structure. These include the execution of foundation slabs and capping beams, which form a key part of the superstructure and will ultimately be used for berthing operations. “

At the outbound quay, jack-up platforms will soon be moored,” said Artur Ciechanowicz, site foreman at NDI Group. “We are currently in the peak phase of reinforced concrete works, with overall progress at 85%. So far, 26 of the planned 28 foundation slabs have been completed.”

Further reinforced concrete works are progressing in parallel across other quays and terminal structures. Efficient material deliveries and well-prepared work fronts are enabling a smooth transition into subsequent phases of construction.

“We have received around 4,000 tonnes of reinforcing steel across nearly 180 deliveries and prepared work fronts for reinforced concrete structures at the outbound, inbound, temporary and Ro-Ro quays. All CFA piling in these areas has been completed, and we have moved on to piling works for the landside crane beam. We are currently in the process of relocating the container facilities to open up further work fronts for stone columns,” said Mateusz Szwaba, site engineer at NDI Group.

Intensive earthworks are also ongoing, including both surcharge embankments and structural layers for future road systems. Progress in this area is likewise allowing for the gradual opening of additional sections for construction.

“Recently, we achieved the design parameters related to soil consolidation under surcharge embankments, which allowed us to obtain approval for their removal and open up new work fronts. In the remaining areas, we have already begun constructing the first layers of road embankments, where geosynthetic layers will soon be installed,” added Kamil Doroś, site engineer at NDI Group.

Advanced reinforced concrete works are also underway at the inbound quay, where further structural elements are being delivered. At the same time, prefabricated components are being installed, alongside the construction of capping beams and quay slabs across multiple sections.

“At the inbound quay, we have completed 26 out of 33 foundation slabs. In total, 60 stages of capping beam concreting are planned for the inbound and temporary quays, of which 51 lower stages have already been completed, with upper stages currently in progress. All prefabricated elements have also been delivered to the site,” said Michał Banasiuk, site engineer at NDI Group.

The project site remains fully mobilised, with all teams working in close coordination to deliver successive stages efficiently and reach the next key milestone. The investment is being carried out on behalf of Istrana, with co-financing from European funds under the National Recovery Plan (KPO) and the Polish Development Fund. The main contractor is NDI Group.
