Following the end of winter, work on Terminal T5 at the Baltic Hub has intensified. Concrete and roadworks are in full swing, embankments for the terminal’s structure are ongoing, and teams will soon commence installation and assembly of hydrotechnical equipment, according to general contractor NDI Group.
By the end of 2025, construction had already reached an advanced stage. In November, a key milestone was completed with the conclusion of infill works, achieving the second contractual benchmark on schedule. Extensive reinforced concrete works were carried out on both outbound quays (foundation slabs and cappings) and inbound quays (cappings), alongside 24-hour CFA piling operations with three rigs in operation. Ground improvements using RIC technology—hydraulic hammer soil densification—and construction of surcharge embankments were also underway, consolidating weak soils for the terminal. At the same time, teams prepared installations and verified road surface designs on a dedicated trial area.
Full-speed construction resumes
After a challenging winter marked by low temperatures and heavy snowfall, work has resumed across all fronts—outbound, inbound, and temporary quays—on reinforced concrete structures. Additional crews have been mobilised, with operations diversified across cappings and concrete slabs. Permafrost removal technology has been applied to allow continuation of ground reinforcement using HEIC (high energy impact), RIC, and gravel column methods, alongside construction of further surcharge embankments.
Winter had slowed, and in some cases halted, parts of the project. However, by late February and early March 2026, NDI teams and subcontractors ramped up activity to maintain continuity and accelerate progress.
"By taking every opportunity to advance works despite severe temperatures, we were able to prepare fronts for reinforcement works, which are now underway. We can mobilise additional crews and machinery, enabling simultaneous operations across multiple sites," said Łukasz Jagalski, Deputy Construction Manager, NDI Group.
Currently, embankment works for the terminal structure continue, alongside new roadwork fronts. Major electrical, sanitary, and stormwater installation works have also commenced.
"In the near term, we expect to complete roadworks and reinforced concrete structures, and to accelerate work on structural layers for the final surface," Jagalski added.
Hydrotechnical installations and equipment assembly will also proceed in parallel, ensuring schedule continuity and smooth progress. The wide scope of concurrent works demonstrates both the project’s advancement and the effective organisation of subcontractor teams.
Terminal T5 continues to move steadily through its construction milestones. The project is commissioned by Istrana, co-financed through European funds under the KPO programme and the Polish Development Fund, with NDI Group serving as general contractor.
