New Trawler Launched at Karstensen Shipyard in Gdańsk
Date of publication: 15.04.2026

At the B1 slipway of the Karstensen Shipyard Poland, crowds of visitors once again gathered to witness yet another vessel launch this year. On Tuesday, 14 April, the shipyard hosted another public launching ceremony. At 10:00, the hull of a trawler built for a Norwegian shipowner slid down the B1 slipway into the waters of the Martwa Wisła.

The vessel launched on the day is named Møgsterfjord. Its hull, construction number 483, has been under build at Karstensen since June 2025. It is a fishing vessel—a trawler/seiner. The client is the Norwegian company Nordhaus AS.

Møgsterfjord measures 69.99 metres in length and 15.5 metres in beam, with a draught of 5.5 metres. It will be based in Bergen, from where it will operate fishing voyages using both trawling and purse-seining methods. The catch will include fish intended for the food industry, such as herring and mackerel, as well as species used for fishmeal production, including blue whiting and sprat.

The catch will be stored on board in 11 RSW holds using seawater cooled to below zero. The total capacity of these tanks is 1,939 cubic metres.

After the launch, the Møgsterfjord was moored alongside the shipyard quay, where preparations immediately began for its tow to Denmark. There, at the shipyard’s parent facility, the vessel will be outfitted. The process is expected to take around seven months.
