Representatives of Ørsted and PGE, during a site visit, reviewed construction progress and discussed the upcoming key project milestones. Another intensive phase of works has now been completed in the development of the T5 terminal in Gdańsk, which will serve as a marshalling, pre-assembly and installation hub for offshore wind turbines dedicated to the Baltica 2 project.

Construction of T5 in Gdańsk has reached an advanced stage. Land reclamation works have been completed, involving the delivery and placement of a total of 3.26 million cubic metres of sand. The construction and anchoring of the quay walls is ongoing, alongside the installation of more than 1,850 piles across all three berths. Levelling works are continuing, while reinforced concrete works have commenced in parallel, including the execution of structural elements forming the initial quay sections.

“It is from Gdańsk that we will carry out the installation of 107 turbines for the Baltica 2 project, scheduled for 2027. The timely delivery of the installation port infrastructure in Gdańsk is a critical success factor for the entire project. A site visit provides an excellent opportunity to witness first-hand the progress of Poland’s offshore wind programme. As the country’s largest renewable energy project, Baltica 2 will be a cornerstone of Poland’s green transition, generating clean energy to meet the needs of approximately 2.5 million Polish households,” said Agata Staniewska-Bolesta, Country Manager at Ørsted Polska.

“Terminal T5 is not only essential for the timely delivery of the Baltica 2 project, but also represents a major investment for the Pomeranian region. This project demonstrates that the offshore wind sector provides a powerful modernisation impulse to Poland’s port infrastructure. For at least the next 10–15 years, the T5 terminal in Gdańsk will support the development of offshore wind energy, and thereafter it will be utilised in line with evolving market requirements,” said Bartosz Fedurek, President of the Management Board of PGE Baltica.

“The on-schedule execution of the project by the Polish company Istrana also confirms that domestic industry possesses the competence, ambition and capacity to deliver world-class solutions and to participate meaningfully in Poland’s energy transition,” he added.

“The delivery of Terminal T5 is a strategic project for Istrana, reinforcing our position as a key logistics hub for the development of offshore wind in the Baltic Sea region. Works are progressing in accordance with the project schedule, and the scale of the undertaking illustrates its importance both for Baltica 2 and for the long-term development of the Port of Gdańsk. Our cooperation with PGE and Ørsted on this project exemplifies the effective integration of international investor expertise with Polish port infrastructure, supporting the country’s energy transition,” added Lech Paszkowski, President of Istrana.

In the coming months, further construction works under the T5 project will include the continuation of reinforced concrete and piling works, the construction of working platforms, delivery of prefabricated structural elements and the commencement of utilities and network infrastructure installation. In parallel, final land levelling and ground improvement works will be completed, enabling full readiness of the terminal for subsequent phases of development.

In 2024, PGE and Ørsted, in cooperation with Istrana, executed a lease agreement for port land designated for the construction of the T5 installation terminal in Gdańsk. The modern facility, covering more than 21 hectares, will serve as the principal logistics base for the Baltica 2 development. Its infrastructure concept enables the simultaneous handling of jack-up installation vessels and Ro-Ro transport units, thereby strengthening Poland’s offshore wind supply chain capability.

Baltica 2, with an installed capacity of 1.5 GW, will be the largest offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea and is expected to supply approximately 2.5 million households with clean, renewable energy. The project is supported by funding from Poland’s National Recovery Plan (KPO) in the amount of PLN 5.5 billion (PGE’s portion of the financing), while Ørsted is financing its share from its own resources.
