Modernization of the quays in the Port of Szczecin is still underway, benefiting the companies operating there. According to Bulk Cargo – Port Szczecin, the Katowickie Quay, operated by the company, has undergone a necessary modernization, which will enhance its operational capabilities.

Thanks to this comprehensive upgrade, Katowickie Quay in the Port of Szczecin will be able to accommodate larger vessels, both in terms of size (including draft) and tonnage, ensuring greater efficiency in cargo handling. As the operator emphasizes, this is not just an infrastructure improvement, but also a strategic change that will strengthen its position as a partner for the most demanding cargo operations. The project was carried out under a key initiative managed by the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority.

According to the provided information, the technical depth of the quay is now 12.5 meters, while the operational depth is 11 meters. Similar works were carried out on other quays in Szczecin, which previously could accommodate vessels with a maximum draft of up to 9 meters.

This is only part of the large-scale works ongoing in the Port of Szczecin for several years under the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment within the EU 2014–2020 financial perspective. Increasing accessibility for ships with the mentioned draft is intended to make the port more competitive.

The modernization involved, among other things, the expansion of three active quays and the construction of two new ones. This required the delivery and use of tens of thousands of cubic meters of concrete and many kilometers of steel pipes, sheet piles, and piles to reinforce the structures.
