In the first six months of 2026, the Port of Gdynia handled more than 13.5 million tonnes of cargo, representing an increase of 3.5%, or 456,500 tonnes, compared with the corresponding period last year.

The strongest contribution to this performance came from the agricultural products segment. Throughput of grain and animal feed increased by 13.94%, or 307,100 tonnes. The other bulk cargo segment also recorded very strong growth, with volumes rising aby 51.83% (246,800 tonnes). Within this category, bulk cement and limestone recorded particularly dynamic growth. Liquid bulk cargo also posted an increase, rising by 7.56%, or 96,500 tonnes.

Ro-ro and ferry freight also maintained strong momentum. Cargo volumes in this segment increased by more than 13%, or almost 400,000 tonnes. The result was driven in part by the expansion of Finnlines' ro-ro service. For the past year, the operator has deployed the largest vessels in its fleet on the Gdynia route, each capable of carrying around 400 semi-trailers in a single voyage. Containerised general cargo, meanwhile, ended the six-month period with a 5.12% decline in tonnage handled.

During the first half of the year, coal and coke throughput also declined, falling by 23.21%, or 135,800 tonnes, compared with the previous year.

Overall, positive growth across the key cargo segments more than offset declines in the remaining cargo groups, resulting in an overall throughput increase of 3.5% (456,500 tonnes).

We are particularly pleased with the strong performance of grain and animal feed, other bulk cargo and liquid fuels. These results confirm that our investment decisions are responding to genuine market demand. The expansion of the liquid fuels quay is not simply a response to current demand, but an investment in the continued growth of this segment and in expanding the port's operational capacity – said Piotr Gorzeński, President of the Port of Gdynia Authority.

During the first half of 2026, the Port of Gdynia welcomed 1,970 vessel calls, 6% more than in the corresponding period last year, including 1,838 commercial vessels. The port also handled 419 ferry calls, carrying approximately 243,000 passengers, as well as 26 cruise ships, which brought nearly 67,000 passengers to Gdynia.
