Baltic Grain Terminal Resumes Operations at the Port of Gdynia
Date of publication: 23.10.2026

The Baltic Grain Terminal (BTZ) is resuming cargo-handling operations, increasing the Port of Gdynia’s capacity to handle grain. GBT Sp. z o.o. will serve as the terminal’s interim operator. The resumption of BTZ operations comes amid rising grain throughput at Polish ports and will enable the Port of Gdynia to better meet exporters’ needs.

Between January and September 2026, grain throughput at Poland’s three largest seaports increased by more than 26% compared with the same period last year. During the same nine-month period, the Port of Gdynia handled nearly 3.7 million tonnes of grain, an increase of more than 18% year on year.

“We are seeing a clear increase in grain throughput at Polish ports. The harvest is over, and we are approaching the period when Polish grain will be shipped to overseas markets. Our priority is to be ready to meet the current needs of Polish exporters, while also having the capacity to handle additional volumes should they emerge on the market,” said Piotr Gorzeński, President of the Management Board of the Port of Gdynia Authority S.A.

The Baltic Grain Terminal accounts for approximately 10% of the Port of Gdynia’s grain-handling capacity. Grain cargoes are currently handled by the port’s other terminals, and the resumption of BTZ operations will increase available handling capacity and give the port greater operational flexibility.

GBT to Serve as Interim Operator

GBT Sp. z o.o. will act as the interim operator of the Baltic Grain Terminal. The company specialises in handling agricultural bulk commodities, primarily grain and oilseed meals, and also operates the Gdańsk Bulk Terminal.

“We are ready to begin operations at the Baltic Grain Terminal efficiently. We have an experienced team and the technical and operational resources needed to handle this type of cargo. Our task is to bring BTZ to full operational readiness as quickly as possible and ensure efficient and safe cargo-handling services for customers,” said Rafał Różański, President of the Management Board of GBT Sp. z o.o.

The agreement with GBT Sp. z o.o. was concluded under the provisions set out in the Articles of Association of the Port of Gdynia Authority S.A.

Long-Term Lease of BTZ Remains the Objective

The process to secure a long-term lease for the Baltic Grain Terminal is still under way.

A tender conducted by the Port of Gdynia Authority S.A. resulted in the selection of a consortium comprising Szczecin Bulk Terminal Sp. z o.o., Tapini Sp. z o.o. and Ribera Sp. z o.o. Another important milestone was obtaining European Commission approval for the concentration, which was granted on 12 October 2026.

Formal and organisational steps related to concluding the long-term lease agreement are currently under way.
