Gdynia's RADMOR, Airbus Defence and Space, Thales Alenia Space have announced the signing of an industrial cooperation agreement to develop a geostationary telecommunications satellite for Poland’s Ministry of National Defence. The event took place as part of the celebrations of Polish–French Friendship Day, highlighting the long-standing industrial cooperation between the two nations.

Airbus Defence and Space, Thales Alenia Space and RADMOR are joining forces to build a new Polish military satellite. The agreement was signed during a ceremony attended by French President Emmanuel Macron, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Polish Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and French Minister of the Armed Forces Catherine Vautrin.

— We are beginning a new chapter in European space cooperation – on a scale that will enable the delivery of a reliable system for the Polish Armed Forces. RADMOR, as part of the WB GROUP, is proud to stand among world-class partners, contributing its expertise and long-standing experience to ensuring secure, resilient and mission-critical satellite communications capabilities — said RADMOR CEO Bartłomiej Zając.

As part of the “Readiness 2030” plan, launched by the European Commission in 2025, the new geostationary satellite will provide secure communications for the Polish armed forces, ensuring a very high level of robustness and resilience.

— This partnership is the essence of European cooperation. Acting across borders to drive innovation and industrial competitiveness serves better connectivity and global security. It is also another chapter in Airbus’ long-standing partnership with the Polish armed forces and industry — said Alain Fauré, Head of Space Systems at Airbus Defence and Space.

In an era of high-intensity conflict and an increasingly contested space domain, the integrated system will be cyber-secured in both its ground and orbital segments and resistant to threats, thereby contributing to strengthening Poland’s sovereignty in space.

— We are proud to lead this strategic industrial cooperation, delivering state-of-the-art secure communications solutions to the Ministry of National Defence — said Hervé Derrey, President and CEO of Thales Alenia Space (a joint venture owned by Thales 67% and Leonardo 33%).

The partners will combine their capabilities in military communications, mission control, efficient satellite platform design and industrialisation, as well as secure ground infrastructure and cybersecurity.

— The decision to expand RADMOR’s activity into the space sector represents a natural stage in the company’s development, covering both the extension of frequency ranges and the expansion of its communications solutions portfolio. The contemporary operational environment is closely integrated with space infrastructure; therefore, developing capabilities in satellite communications will ensure coherence, security and resilience of communications across all operational domains — added Bartłomiej Zając.

— This geostationary satellite project will embody the highest standards of resilience, cybersecurity and anti-jamming technologies, reflecting our commitment to strengthening European defence sovereignty. Together with Airbus Defence and Space and RADMOR, we will provide the Polish Armed Forces with a robust, comprehensive solution that responds to the challenges of today’s complex security environment — said CEO Hervé Derrey.
