The PGE Group and Ørsted have contracted ships for the installation of 48 out of 107 wind turbines for the Baltica 2 project – one of the two stages of the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm.

The installation of wind turbines for Baltica 2 has been divided into two stages, with separate tender procedures being conducted for each. The first batch of turbines, contracted by PGE and Ørsted in April 2023, will be installed by Fred. Olsen Windcarrier.

"This is already the second contract for installation vessels for the Baltica 2 project. Earlier, we signed an agreement for services necessary for the installation and connection of internal and export cables. In 2023, we also concluded the contracting of components for the marine part of Baltica 2. Work towards starting the construction of Poland's largest renewable energy project is proceeding according to schedule. In just three years, energy from the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm will reach Polish homes," said Wojciech Dąbrowski, CEO of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna.

"We are opening the new year with an important contract for the installation of wind turbines. In light of the challenges facing the offshore wind industry worldwide, we are particularly proud to consistently and according to plan sign further agreements with experienced players, bringing us closer to the realization of Baltica 2 – a pioneering project in the Polish offshore wind market," said Agata Staniewska-Bolesta, Managing Director of Ørsted Offshore Poland.

Fred. Olsen Windcarrier has a track record of turbine installations and offshore repair or component exchange services for many wind projects worldwide, with the majority being offshore of the British Isles. For the task of installing wind turbines for Baltica 2, they will deploy a jack-up vessel.

Baltica 2 is one of the two stages – alongside Baltica 3 – of the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm. Ørsted and PGE plan to complete the construction of the Baltica 2 stage with a capacity of approximately 1.5 GW by the end of 2027, and the Baltica 3 stage with a capacity of approximately 1 GW by 2030. Investors still await the final investment decision (FID). Baltica 2 and Baltica 3 will form the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm with a combined capacity of 2.5 GW, significantly contributing to the transformation of Polish energy by providing green energy to nearly 4 million households in Poland.
