On the morning of 20 March, Port Gdynia and Taiwan’s Port of Kaohsiung signed a memorandum of cooperation. The document represents a significant step in building relations between two ports of strategic importance to international supply chains and enhances prospects for economic collaboration between Poland and Taiwan. It sets out a framework for joint initiatives in modern port technologies, automation, security, and the assessment of potential development for regular shipping services between Poland and Taiwan.
The memorandum was concluded between the Port of Kaohsiung, operating under Taiwan International Ports Corporation Ltd., and the Management Board of the Maritime Port of Gdynia S.A. Its purpose is to establish long-term cooperation between Port Gdynia and Port Kaohsiung in areas including knowledge and best practice exchange, technological and organisational development of the ports, and the analysis of opportunities for developing regular maritime connections. The agreement was signed by Grzegorz Bławat, Deputy Director of the Strategy and Market Analysis Office, and Tsu-Chiang Chen, Harbour Master of the Port of Kaohsiung.
“This is an important step in the development of Port Gdynia’s international relations and in creating new prospects for logistical and technological cooperation between Europe and Asia. We see substantial potential both in exchanging knowledge and experience, and in analysing future directions for shipping services,” said Grzegorz Bławat.

The agreement covers cooperation in digitalisation and automation of port processes, the use of artificial intelligence and data analytics, critical infrastructure security and cybersecurity, as well as joint analytical and promotional activities aimed at strengthening the position of both ports in global supply chains. Key areas of cooperation outlined in the memorandum include modern port technologies, digitalisation of logistical and administrative processes, intelligent systems for traffic and infrastructure management, automation of container and bulk terminals, supply chain management systems, and solutions supporting sustainable development and environmental protection.
A significant element of the agreement is also the development of artificial intelligence applications and data analytics in port operations. The parties also committed to collaboration in security matters, encompassing critical infrastructure protection, cybersecurity, risk management and crisis response, as well as safeguarding ports and shipping in accordance with international standards.
It should be recalled that in September of last year, a delegation of Taiwanese authorities visited Gdynia, following an earlier cooperation agreement between the city of Gdynia and Kaohsiung. The visit provided an opportunity to exchange experiences and discuss potential joint initiatives in economic and technological spheres. The Taiwanese delegation also toured Port Gdynia, familiarising themselves with its operations, history, and development plans.
Building relations with one of East Asia’s most important ports aligns with Port Gdynia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen international cooperation, develop advanced port competencies, and position the port as a key node in European and global supply chains. The partnership also opens discussions on port infrastructure investments, green transformation and environmental solutions, as well as digitalisation of port processes and the strategic role of ports in global supply networks.
