Six hybrid Konecranes RTG yard cranes left Gdańsk on Saturday, 23rd August, bound for Spain. The equipment, destined for CSP Iberian Valencia Terminal at the Port of Valencia, was loaded aboard a vessel owned by the Spliethoff Group. According to current AIS data, the vessel is expected to arrive in Valencia at around 1 September.
The order for six hybrid RTGs was placed in the fourth quarter of 2025. At the time, Konecranes said the planned delivery date was December 2026. If the current voyage schedule is maintained, the equipment will reach Valencia several months earlier than originally expected.
The six cranes, numbered 104–109, were loaded aboard Pietersgracht at Oliwskie Quay. Their delivery is part of the CSP Iberian Valencia terminal’s programme to modernise its operations and improve energy efficiency.
This is CSP Iberian Valencia Terminal’s second order for Konecranes hybrid RTG cranes in 2025. Under an earlier contract, the terminal ordered seven units. Its fleet will therefore be expanded by a total of 13 new hybrid RTGs.
“This experience gave us confidence that it was worth investing in additional Konecranes hybrid RTG cranes. These cranes play a key role in achieving our environmental efficiency targets while maintaining high productivity and controlling maintenance costs” – said Gustavo Ferrer Soriano, General Manager of CSP Iberian Valencia.

Lower fuel consumption
The cranes use a hybrid drive system in which energy is stored in onboard batteries, while a diesel generator supports the charging process. The energy management system adjusts the generator’s operation to the current power demand, while energy recovered during braking can be reused.
According to Konecranes, the solution reduces fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions compared with conventional diesel-powered RTG cranes.
The new machines are also equipped with the Active Load Control (ALC) system, a gantry collision prevention system and Truck Lift Prevention, which prevents a container from being accidentally lifted together with the truck. These solutions are designed to improve both safety and the efficiency of terminal operations.
Konecranes says more than 3,000 RTG cranes of the brand have already been delivered worldwide, including units equipped with hybrid drives.

Cranes manufactured in Poland
The new RTGs for CSP were manufactured in Poland using Konecranes’ local production network. Once production and preparations for transport were completed, they were taken to Gdańsk, from where they were shipped by sea to Spain.
The vessel Pietersgracht involved in the transport is approximately 168.6 metres long and 25.4 metres wide. The current voyage schedule indicates that it should reach Valencia on 1 September at around 11am. The final arrival time may, however, change depending on conditions along the route and the progress of port operations.
It is worth noting that this is not the first shipment of Konecranes cranes from Gdańsk to CSP terminals in Spain. In 2023, a total of 11 hybrid RTG cranes destined for CSP terminals in Bilbao and Valencia were shipped. At the time, the equipment was transported aboard Schillplate.
