The latest ferry to sail under POLSCA trademark – Bursztyn Unity – is being prepared for its naming ceremony, scheduled for 11 November, Poland's Regained Independence Day. The vessel and Gdańsk's Remontowa Shipyard that built it, were visited by a delegation from the Ministry of State Assets led by Minister Wojciech Balczun.
The visit took place on 15 October and was also attended by Adam Ruszkowski, President of the Management Board of Remontowa Holding S.A., and Michał Habina, President of Remontowa Shipyard. They briefed the minister on the progress of the work and the operations of both the shipyard and the wider holding company. Wojciech Balczun was shown the ferry’s equipment. Construction began in March 2023, and the hull was technically launched in December 2024. The ferry began its first sea trials in late September this year.
The vessel is 195.6 metres long and 32.2 metres wide, with a crew of 50. Its propulsion system comprises four liquefied natural gas (LNG) engines, a hybrid battery system and azimuth thrusters. The total length of its cargo lanes is 4,100 metres. The ferry is designed to accommodate up to 400 passengers and 270 standard lorries.
Spaces have been designed on board to ensure passenger comfort. These will include cafeterias, bars and family areas, alongside modern air-conditioning and ventilation systems and advanced safety systems, including fire protection.
Both the Ministry of State Assets and representatives of the shipyard and Remontowa Holding emphasise that the ferry was built with 100% local content, with domestic companies accounting for the majority of contributions. In addition, 90% of its equipment comes from companies based in European countries.
The naming ceremony and the raising of the Polish flag on Bursztyn Unity are scheduled for 11 November. The event will take place in Szczecin, at Wały Chrobrego. The vessel will operate on the Świnoujście–Ystad route under the joint commercial brand POLSCA Baltic Ferries, which brings together the operators Unity Line, Polferries and Hass Holding.
Another ferry of the same class, Jantar Unity, is already operating under the POLSCA brand. It began its maiden voyage on the Świnoujście–Trelleborg route in January this year.
